Finally, they co-create the software strategy with business leaders by developing a vision for the future.

Execution

They manage the day-to-day operations of the software delivery team.

This includes assigning roles and responsibilities, prioritizing work, and monitoring performance.

They are responsible for creating actionable business insights from data related to their team’s activities.

They are also responsible for making sure that everyone on their team is aware of the organization’s strategy and goals.

Planning & Budgeting

A VP of Software Delivery works closely with business leaders, developers, and other stakeholders to understand what problems they are trying to solve.

Finally, they help these stakeholders use technology to drive new sources of value for the company.

Here are some common ways that a VP of Software Delivery interacts with other people on their team:

Every day, they work with business leaders across the company to understand how their organization can create new sources of value through technology.

As they do this, they analyze trends in the market to ensure that their software is meeting the needs of users.

Based on this information, they identify opportunities for improvement so that their team can adapt to changing demands.

Every day, they collaborate with their direct reports to understand how the team is performing against its goals.

They periodically review metrics like development velocity and team attrition rate so that any issues can be addressed early on.

Every week, they receive regular updates from each member of their team on how work is progressing.

A VP of Software Delivery may meet with each member of their team one-on-one or join a larger status meeting to provide feedback and answer questions. Every month, they meet with teams outside of software delivery to understand what impact any new applications will have on users and other departments within the company.
